The notes below may be helpful for you to read the chart above:
  • The top row is for event dates; the final row is how many medals for each given date; the rest of the rows are corresponding to daily activities of each of the sports events.
  • The first column names all of the sports events; the second column is the sub-names of some of the sports; the last column is the total medals given for each of the corresponding sports; the rest of the columns are daily sports activities.
  • The event schedule is color coded. The green rectangular boxes represent the regular sport matches, but no finals, while the blue rectangular boxes represent the finals for a given day. The number in a blue rectangular box indicates how many medals for that day in the corresponding sport.
  • The very last number in the bottom right corner is the total medals that the Beijing Summer Games is going to award.
  • The letter "G" stands for Performance (i.e., not an official sports such as Wushu, the Chinese Martial Arts); The letter "R" stands for TBD (i.e., to be determined -- no matches and/or performance have been scheduled for that day).
  • There are 28 competitions in the 2008 Games, to be held in 37 venues. In addition, there are 59 training sites. Among the 37 venues, 32 are in Beijing. The remaining 5 are in other cities. They are: Qingdao Sailboat center and the soccer fields of Tianjin, Qinhuang Dao, Shenyang and Shanghai. For facilities in Beijing, 11 venues are currently in use; 12 will be upgraded; and 8 will be built specifically for the Games. All there facilities will be built or modified according to the requirements of each International Sports Federation. The site selection, design, construction, and post-game untilization of these venues will fully realize the themes of Green, Humanistic, and Technology.
