Interested in taking a trip to Germany? Here are five location “hot spots” you might want to explore:
- Site of Interest: Mosel Valley’s Burg Eltz – an over 500 year old castle with 80 rooms and 40 fireplaces, just a 30 minute car drive away from the town of Cochem.
- Festival or Event: Oktoberfest- giant brewery-sponsored beer halls that can hold up to 5,000 people a piece; the 16-day festival in Munich has become well-known all over the world.
- Museum: The Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) – located in the popular location of Frankfurt, the museum has exhibits with more than 30,000 objects representing European and Asian decorative arts. (http://www.angewandtekunst-frankfurt.de/mak_e/english/01_kontakt.html)
- Food: Café Grundmann in Leipzig Germany is said to serve some of the best schnitzel. The schnitzel (cutlet) is typically composed of veal or pork that is breaded. It may be served with gravy and mushrooms to spicy vegetables (http://www.cafe-grundmann.de/). Other popular German foods include:
a) Gulasch (goulash) is a mix of meat in a stew, sometimes with vegetables added. b) Sausage is a common way of spreading meat out.
- Nightlife: For a hip vibe with sweeping views of Berlin, hit the Weekend Club. It is located on the upper floors of an old office building on Alexanderplatz. With the Bar and furniture at the center of the Weekend Club, the panoramic windows looking out on Berlin's cityscape are the signature of this hotspot. (http://www.week-end-berlin.de/)
